We Have a Winner!!

4 May

Thank you to everyone that participated in our Giveaway this past week!  It sure was a lot of fun!   With the help of an old fashioned pencil and paper (to list everyone from, Facebook, Twitter and here on the blog who entered) and random.org, a winner was chosen!  More on that in a moment.  (This is my Ryan Seacrest moment…suspense, y’all, suspense!!)

I wanted to follow up on an earlier blog that Selina had done about a Quilt Along.  I was very excited when she posted this because I have charm packs that need to be used.  One I received was from Stitchin’ Heaven.  They had a fabulous Twitter party on New Years Eve, and I won!  (The winning never ends around here!!)  It was a beautiful charm pack from Kate Spain called Fandango.  As pretty as it was, it did not have any immediate plans for it.  Selina’s blog came up, and sure enough, a project was born!! It came together fairly quickly (even if I did have to make a *tiny* trip to the fabric store that ended up costing more than I intended…what can I say, I’m a sucker! AND, my daughter’s birthday is coming up! PLUS I needed binding fabric! Why am I justifying buying fabric to you?  You totally get it, I’m sure.) and I completed it within a week and a half!

I did a stipple design in the center, and curies with random flowers in the borders.  It is also backed in a Moda polka dot that I happened to have on hand.  (this is where my stash hoarding comes in handy!!)

Here is Selina’s beautiful quilt:

Baby Bliss

Her quilting is beautiful, don’t you think?! Anyway, we had a lot of fun making these sweet little quilts, it was really great being able to complete something so quickly again!

Anyway, here it is. The moment of truth.  The moment you’ve all been waiting for…our winner is…#17: Heather, who commented here on the blog!  Congratulations, and thanks to ALL who entered! You really made this week fun!  Until next time!

Quilts For Japan Update

29 Apr

You know, it’s funny how things happen.  I had in my mind what I wanted to make for my Quilts For Japan quilt ( that is to say, I had fabric I wanted to use) but I am donating a completely different quilt!

I have had this Quilt Kit in my stash for quite some time:

Fossil Fern Quilt Kit

This is a medallion wall hanging from Benartex.  It has a medallion for the center and gradient Fossil Fern fabrics in blues and purples.  I never had a strong desire to make the quilt as shown, so I made a sketch of two blocks, and cut the fabric into bits.  What I ended up with is this:

I’m quite pleased with how this turned out, considering I made it up on the fly.  The inner lavender border and binding are batik.  I received the batik from my grandmother’s estate, and it fit perfectly with the Fossil Ferns.  I also had lavender Minkee on hand, so naturally, it is backed in Minkee.  (SO SOFT!!)

Originally I was going to call this quilt Bento Box, but there is already a beautiful, well known pattern called Bento Box. Alas.  I think I’ll call this Chopsticks.

So, why is it this isn’t what I had in mind?  Well, as i was making this beautiful quilt, one of my completed quilts found its way back home to me.  I had given it to my grandma (my other grandma), and she has never used it.  It always sat beautifully folded in a room.  She is beginning to downsize and asked if I would like it back.  It is considerably larger than Chopsticks, and I felt it was a better quilt to give.

Delft

I was so please to be able to share this quilt with someone.  I may have said it earlier, but what I lack in cash, I make up for in fabric.  I want to help, and this is honestly the best way  know how.  I do know that monetary needs are still there, and will be for quite some time.  With that in mind, I will be donating the proceeds from Chopsticks to the Red Cross.

There are so many people in need right now, and with yesterday’s devastating tornadoes tearing through the South, Selina and I see our next calling.  Stay tuned for a call out for a quilter help within the next few days!

Don’t forget to enter yourself into the drawing for our big prize on our earlier blog!  We also host #gdas on Twitter, Friday night’s at 6 PM Pacific, where we Get Drunk and Sew.  Or talk about sewing. Or Merkins, or whatever.  Join us!! WS_on_Etsy

Thanks for everything!

Who likes free stuff?

26 Apr

I sure do like free stuff!  Just yesterday I received a tiny mascara in the mail for free from Clinique! It made my whole day!  Why would they just send out a free mascara?  Or those free panty coupons from Victoria’s Secret, what’s up with how awesome that is?!  Any promotion that results in free goodies is one that I talk about and therefore, in my humble opinion, is a promotion worth having!  While I would love to give something to everyone,  I’m no corporation, I am but a humble SAHM that simply loves to give and create.  So, in the spirit of giving, I have not just a pattern to give away, but a fat quarter bundle as well!  Not JUST a fat quarter bundle, but 20 freaking fat quarters!!! And they coordinate!! And a pattern that uses all of them and leaves little scrap!!  Come on!! That’s awesome, right?!  And I totally want you to win it!!

Wandering Stars Giveaway!

“But how do I win, and why are you so awesome?” I hear you asking, and those are great questions.  Entering is simple; Leave a comment below, retweet the link to this blog or “like” us on Facebook and leave a comment there!  In fact, each of those actions will result in an entry!

We’re trying to broaden our network of fellow crafters and quilters.  Sewing makes me feel happy, and having like minded people to share the joys and frustrations with is the best!  As much as I love to receive stuff in the mail, I love to be the sender as well!  Good luck, and thanks for spending your time with us! The contest ends Tuesday, May 3rd!

So without further ado, our winner is:

“In general, I like seeing great photos & thoughtful posts. Tutorials are great, but it’s really the content I look for. I also like seeing what people are working on & the thought process behind it. And of course, giveaways are great!

Our First Ever Giveaway Post!

21 Jan

I have decided that I want to do a little remodel of our blog. I read all kinds of crafty blogs from all over and in comparison I find the look of ours to be a little, well, blah. I want pretty colors, fancy links to awesome crafty stuff and wonderful crafty people, and to use it to promote others a bit more. Before I begin the process though, I’m going to need some feedback. That’s where the giveaway comes in. I have been hesitant to do a giveaway, but after much deliberation (read: deciding what I could stand to part with from my treasured stash) I have decided to go ahead and have one.

My question would be this: What makes you return to the same blog time and again? Is it because of all the wonderful links, the aesthetics, or the writing? Maybe you like blogs for their inspiration. Or maybe the thought of winning a prize entices you.

Speaking of prizes, you probably want to know what this one is! It’s a charm pack of Blossom by Moda Fabrics and a really great book called Cool Girls Quilt by Linda Lum DeBono. It’s got some cute projects in it that are perfect for beginners as well as more seasoned sewists.

What are your favorite things to see on a blog? It could be photos, tutorials, links to other blogs, prizes… lots of things. Here is the giveaway criteria… Leave a comment for us and let us know what keeps you coming back to read a blog. That’s all! One entry per person and duplicate entries will be deleted. I’ll choose a random winner on Wednesday January 26th. The more we hear from you, the better our blog will be when I’m done snazzing it up! Good luck!
