I <3 Wholesale!

24 Oct

Yesterday Lizze and I went to the wholesale fabric show in Renton. You know how she likes to back all of her quilts in Minkee? Well, maybe you don’t know that. Minkee is the softest, most comforting fabric on this planet. This show could not have come at a better time, because she was nearly out.  A lot of the vendors that are normally there were not because of it being so close to quilt market. I can’t wait for the spring show when everyone will be there!

Lizze ordered 5 bolts of Minkee yesterday. That should be enough to back many, many quilts. We also stopped by and said hello to the ladies at the Clothworks booth. We were amazed because at their booth they had little bags set out on the table. We asked what they were. Quilt kits! They also had fat quarter bundles! With no minimum purchase! It was so exciting.

We both bought a quilt kit and I got two fat quarter bundles. Now, about 3 years ago our family bought a camper. Ever since then I have been wanting to make a quilt for it. I had a difficult time finding just the right “camping” themed fabric. The little bundles I found are perfect. And I got enough to make a quilt that will cover our entire bed.

Adorable camping themed fabrics

So, I’d have to say that yesterday was a pretty fantastic day. As if I didn’t have enough projects already… But I’m finally going to spend some time making a few things for myself. I can’t wait until next summer when our family gets to go camping again with our lovely new quilt.

The End of Summer is Near

16 Aug

I just got home today from my last vacation of the summer. The family and I went to Lake O’Sullivan. It was incredibly hot and my husband is now hot pink. We took our trailer up to the lake and were gone for four days. Floating around in inner tubes, soaking up the sun, and sucking down a few ice cold beers; that is a perfect weekend. By a sheer twist of fate, it ended up being a bit more relaxing than I had expected.

I am normally attached to my phone. I have it on me all the time and I feel naked without it. The morning we left for our camping trip, I plugged it into the computer and noticed that I had a software update. I updated it, and my phone crashed. I was furious! I didn’t have time to restore it so I had no choice but to leave without it. It really is something odd to not hear little chirps echoing from my pocket every few minutes. I’d hear a bird and then touch my pocket out of habit. I’ve realized that I don’t like that about myself. Once in awhile it is good to disconnect with everyone else, and re-connect with your kids and your spouse instead.

I’ve been working on a new quilt for a couple of weeks and I only have the binding left to finish. I brought it with me to the lake. I got up at 6 o’clock every morning. I would walk the dog, brew a pot of coffee, and then sit by the lake sipping my coffee while I hand stitched the binding down. There was something so peaceful about it and I found myself stitching really slowly because I was paying so much attention to the beauty all around me instead. If I could pack up my life and move it to the lake, I think that just might make me happy.

Summer Camp

20 Jun

I finished my latest little quilt today. As I was making it, I really thought that it would make such a great gift for a child going off to summer camp for the very first time. I never went to summer camp, but the fabric helps me imagine what it would be like. Guitars, campfires, tents, canoes, swimming in the lake… it’s all there! It makes me wish I had gone to camp as a child.

Having a special quilt to take to camp would help a child to feel more comfortable while they are away from home. It will also help to remind them of the fun they had when they return home again.

Lizze made an adorable baby jacket that she listed in the shop today as well. It is made with shabby chic fabrics and lined with pink flannel.

Head over to our shop and check out our latest listings! There are several other items that we have not mentioned. Give it a look and let us know what you think.

Happenings for Today

18 Jun

Today is a busy day for me. I have a quilt in the works that is almost complete and ready to list for sale. It’s the cutest camping themed fabric. It’s a small quilt, perfect for a crib or toddler bed, or even just that special blankie for your little one. I can’t wait to have it finished!

I am running low on quilt batting so I need to go get some more of that today as well. When I say low, I mean, I have about 5 yards left. If that. Talk about waiting until the last minute!

And, of course summer break is here. Does it feel like summer out there? Anyone? My kids are home all day and it’s too cold to send their little bums outside! I may go insane before month’s end. Grocery shopping is on my agenda for the day. Have you ever taken four children to a grocery store? I’d almost rather starve to death.

Lizze has a birthday coming up. I worked on her gift yesterday and got it all done. Now I just have to wait until June 28th to give it to her. I hate waiting to give people their gifts. I’m always very impatient about that sort of thing. Especially if I know it is something they will love, and I know she will love this! We also plan to go to the Seattle Waterfront that day and have lunch at one of the many wonderful seafood restaurants they have. We are still undecided as to which one we’d like to go to. Then we’ll come home, drink booze, and eat cake!

Speaking of things I am impatient about, I might be moving soon. My husband has been offered a chance (as well as a couple other managers) at running a new restaurant. He has said yes, but now we are waiting for the “big bosses” to talk amongst themselves to decide who will go. I can’t stand the waiting. Moving involves many details. First and foremost, selling my home. Which in this market, I can’t say that I’m looking forward to that. If we get the new store we will be packing our bags and moving back to Yakima. Our hometown. My beloved. I’m trying not to get my hopes up just in case it doesn’t work out, but I am failing miserably! If anyone is looking for a 1700 square foot home with a 2-car garage, 3 bedrooms, 2.25 bathrooms, with a huge yard on South Hill in Puyallup, I may have one available soon 😉 A new sewing room would be nice. And a swimming pool. They have sunshine in Yakima!
